A COURSE IN MIRACLES

THE COURSE AS A PRIVATE TUTOR
A Course In Miracles is primarily a guide to cultivating, through daily practice, a fundamentally different attitude and approach to life.

An inspired work given to the world by two Columbia University professors, Dr. Helen Shucman and Dr. William Thetford, it is based on love and equality rather than fear, guilt and "who's to blame." The acquisition of this life-affirming attitude requires looking at, and then trading in, all our unexamined presumptions about how life is supposed to work.

The Course consists of a textbook, workbook and manual for teachers.  It serves as a private tutor to help us look at our current mind set, beliefs, notions and opinions and motivates us to change our minds out of enlightened self-interest.

It sets forth, in unmistakable terms, our own self-centeredness and connects that to our unhappiness. Thus, its purpose is our change of mind and heart about ourselves and others, resulting in more happiness, freedom and opportunity than ever before imagined.

WHAT THE COURSE IS NOT
It is important to note at the outset what A Course In Miracles is not.  It is not a course, in the usual sense, for acquiring strategic information for making our own world view or system successful. Nor is it for perfecting our manipulation skills or for putting another "arrow in our quiver."

Therefore, many have laid the Course aside because they could not understand it intellectually. They could not find the "formula", the technique for getting their way, for fleshing out their picture of "how life is supposed to be."  It did not support what they already believed.

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE

Its purpose is:

• To lead us along a path of true humility.
• To illuminate our value.
• To help us inquire about the validity of our fundamental understanding of truth and reality.
• And when all else fails - to open ourselves to being shown the ease and power of the love that is available to us at any moment we choose.
  
  When we follow its guidelines for relating to one another, it delivers what it promises-- peace of mind.
